About South Central Illinois Mass Transit District

The South Central Illinois Mass Transit District (“SCT” or the “District”) is the primary public transportation provider for the Illinois counties of Marion, Clinton, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin and Perry. SCT is a municipal corporation within the State of Illinois. SCT provides economic, social, and environmental benefits to the communities that it serves through progressive, customer focused, safety-oriented transportation services.

Mission Statement

The mission of South Central Transit is to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective public transportation to the citizens of the communities we serve. We are committed to enhancing economic development and quality of life through affordable, accessible transportation services. Our South Central Transit team pledges to provide courteous service to our customers and aggressively meet the changing needs of our region.

Meet Your SCT Board Members

JSchubert
John Schubert

Washington County
John Schubert represents Washington County and was appointed to the board in 2017. Education – BBA, McKendree University, Lebanon, IL and MA, Webster University, St. Louis and Air Force Veteran 1966-1970. John worked thirty-six years in the Health Care industry until his retirement in 2000 and for the past seventeen years in the Commercial Insurance industry. John served twenty years on the Washington County Board and is currently seated on the Washington County 911 Board. He is married to Sheila Kaufman, has three grown children and six grandchildren. He enjoys Family and Friends, Golf and working on his farm. John is chairman of the Ad HOC Committee and has also served on the Finance Committee.
Don Copeland
Don Copeland

Board Vice President
Don Copeland represents Jefferson County and was appointed to the board in 2015, has served as past Secretary and Assistant Secretary. Education – BS in Accounting, Eastern Illinois University. Don is currently Finance Manager, Southern Illinois Region – SSM Health. Life changing events have been serving as a Fireman and EMT and being able to help people in their most critical times of need as well as coaching Softball, Basketball, Volleyball and seeing kids have fun, grow, learn and improve.

Board Secretary
Pamela Boyd represents Franklin County and was appointed to the board in 2011. Education – Pam attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where she earned a Science Degree in Education. After thirty years of working with adults with Developmental Disabilities Pam retired to work as a substitute teacher. Pam has three daughters, seven grandchildren and one spoiled dog. Pam has also served as past Vice President of the Board, Chairman of the Open Meetings Committee and on the Personnel Committee.

Janet Carter Sullens represents Marion County, serves on the Personnel Committee and is part of the Open Meetings Act and Ad HOC Committees.
Guy Alongi
Guy Alongi

Perry County
Guy Alongi represents Perry County, serves on the Personnel Committee and was appointed to the South Central Transit Board in December 2023. Alongi was born and raised in Du Quoin IL. He was the Executive Director of the Perry County Housing Authority for twenty-six years. Serving as a national trainer for the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Organization in Washington D.C., Alongi trained over seven hundred individuals in the Public Housing Managers Training Program while also serving as Vice President of the Illinois Association of Housing Authorities. Alongi is a former Chairman of the Illinois Community College Board ad was a member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education. He was also a member of the Illinois High School Association, officiating basketball for thirty-two years. As a resident of Du Quoin, Alongi served on the City Council from 1994-2000 as Finance Commissioner/Mayor Pro/Tem and in 2015 was elected Mayor serving two terms. Mr. Alongi presently serves Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin as its President of the Board of Directors. Alongi and Rose his wife of forty-six years, together have two sons, J.R. and Shawn.

Ben Stratemeyer represents Marion County, serves as Chairman of the Open Meetings Act Committee and is part of the Finance Committee. Ben Stratemeyer represents Marion County and was reappointed to the board in June 2020. Education – BS in Finance and Economics and MBA in Finance. Ben’s present occupation is as a Certified Public Accountant. Life changing event for Ben was the marriage to his beautiful, high school sweetheart who is the most important person in his life.
