My name is Jim Adams and as some of you may know, earlier this month I celebrated my 104th Birthday! I was recently asked what my secret was to my longevity and my reply was good doctors and good family.
I’m a fairly new client and just recently began riding with SCT. I still enjoy getting out each morning to join my friends for coffee where we share many a story with each other. Over the past several weeks South Central Transit has been helping me with transportation so that I can continue on with this morning tradition.
After graduating High School I attended the University of Illinois where I was also in the Reserves and became a member of the rifle team. I truly enjoyed competing in shooting matches in Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana.
The following thirty-three years were spent here in Centralia with the Illinois Central Railroad as a draftsman where we built and maintained the caboose and working cars. I’ve been in every car shop east of the Rocky Mountains and nothing compared to what we had right here in Centralia at the I.C.R.R. shops.
I was very instrumental in getting the Locomotive located to Fairview Park in Centralia and several years ago a Caboose was located there too. And I am very proud of City’s care taking of the big wonderful picnic shelter that was added a couple of years ago.
My wife and I spent our summers at Maroon Lake in Colorado where I volunteered for eleven years with the White River Forestry Service. We met many, many interesting people from all over the world while spending our summers at Maroon Lake.
Everything I’ve done has been fun and I truly enjoy life. Today I’m still meeting new and interesting people on the bus and enjoy visiting with them. Jim Adams 5/17/17
