In 1972 Community Link, formerly known as Clinton County Rehabilitation Center Inc., was founded by a small group of parents seeking local services for their children with developmental disabilities. Community Link moved to its present location in Breese in 1982 and changed its name in 1995 to Community Link.
Community Link provides services such as educational, vocational, residential, family-support, case coordination, recreational and community-service programs. The Developmental Training Program teaches individuals with developmental disabilities the life skills that empower them to become more self-reliant. The Work Training Program offers adults with Developmental disabilities the chance to perform hand-assembly and packaging work, as well as learn skills necessary for obtaining community employment. Job Readiness Training, Job Placement and Supported Employment have helped program participants find and maintain competitive community employment. This brings us to the importance of transportation for the participants of these programs.
In early 2007 Community Link partnered with South Central Transit to provide transportation for the Adult and Community Day Service participants as well as the off-site Community Living Programs. SCT transports riders between their families, CILA or small-group homes to three separate Community Link locations (Breese East, Breese West and Fairview Heights Metro) where participants receive a variety of skill and behavior building opportunities. A variety of work is also provided by participants in a factory-type setting or at local businesses such as Republic of Tea, Casey’s and Red Porch Café. For participants with community employment goals or even just volunteering within their community, South Central Transit is a vital transportation link. Nearly 350 Community Link clients use SCT’s transportation each working day.
The mission of South Central Transit is to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective public transportation to the citizens of the communities we serve. We are committed to enhancing economic development and quality of life through affordable, accessible transportation services. Our South Central Transit team pledges to provide courteous service to our customers and aggressively meet the changing needs of our region.
SCT and Community Link are truly “Making A Difference in Our Communities”
